Vartan Agopian is Lebanese pianist of Armenian origin, who has started taking piano lessons at the age of 5. He is an alumnus of the Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music in Beirut, Haigazian University, and Charles University in Prague, holding a double master’s degree in piano performance and music education, in addition to a doctoral degree in piano pedagogy. Vartan has worked as a collaborative pianist at the Lebanese conservatory (accompanying voice and strings students), the choir of the American University of Beirut, and the choir of the Saint Joseph University in Lebanon. Winner of many awards, including “Outstanding Participant Award” from the Prague Conservatory, and second prize of the piano competition of graduate university students in the Czech Republic, Vartan has performed many concerts as a solo pianist, accompanist, and conductor, including many concerts of his own compositions and arrangements. In 2019, he premiered his Piano Concerto in Beirut and Prague, under the baton of the Arab World’s only female conductor, Yasmina Sabbah. Additionally, he has recorded many albums, including two with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and a solo album of his arrangement of Christmas Carols. Vartan currently resides in Prague, Czech Republic, where he teaches piano performance, improvisation, harmony, and analysis at Charles University in Prague. He frequently performs with the Charles University choir and orchestra, in addition to accompanying voice and strings students at the university. He also conducts the choir of the Christian International School in Prague and performs internationally in Lebanon, France, Holland, and other countries. Vartan is also known as a composer and arranger for different singers, ensembles, and orchestras, including the famous close-harmony vocal group, Beirut Vocal Point. Vartan joined Boni Pueri as an accompanist in January 2022.
